Meeting With Your SME
I designed this job aid to help new instructional designers stay on top of best practices when collaborating with their Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the first time. This job aid is designed to be open and used during conversations with their SME as a guide.
Having worked at international organizations in multiple countries, I've gained a deep appreciation for strong communication and collaboration and believe that to be the key to success at the workplace, which is what spurred me to create this work.
I decided to try my hand at a different software and created this work in Canva, as I already had substantial experience creating designs in Figma and PowerPoint.
Notable Features
・I intentionally started each section with action verbs so that the user will have a clear, actionable step.
・I place an emphasis on collaboration by using the plural first-person pronouns "we" and "us", so that even if the user is directly reading off of the job aid to ask questions to the SME, it still naturally places the two parties in a position of working together.
・I gave crucial details under each question as well as examples of good and bad answers, so that both the instructional designer and the SME would have a better idea of what a good answer should contain.
